Turtle bread is as fun as its name sounds and it easy to make using the dough setting on your bread machine. The bread is shaped and finished in the oven and is actually the shape of a turtle. Kids love this kind of baking and it’s great for a celebration or holiday treat. This Turtle bread recipe is chocolaty and sweet with caramels, pecans and chocolate chips to make it special. It’s great for birthdays or just a way to make an everyday dinner special.
Add all ingredients except the chocolate chips and pecans to the bread machine pan in the order indicted above or the order recommended by the manufacturer.
Add chocolate chips and pecans at the Fruit/Nut signal or 5 minutes before the last kneading cycle ends. If you have an automatic fruit/nut hopper – add the chips to the hopper chute.
Remove the dough and cut five small chunks off and shape the large remaining chunk into a mound on an oiled baking sheet. Form a piece of dough to make the head and put the remaining pieces around the large piece of dough to make the feet. Use the edge of a fork to make toes on the feet and cut a mouth into the front piece of dough.
Use whole pecans to make the eyes. Let the dough rest on baking sheet for 30 minutes to allow a second rise.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until brown. Let rest for 10 minutes and serve.
