Cardamom is a spice sometimes used in pie recipes like apple pie and apple desserts. It’s also used to accent fruit dishes and as a flavoring for sweet potatoes. It originates in Central America and sometimes appears in curries and contemporary Scandinavian dishes. It occasionally appears in breads because of its unique savory and aromatic flavor-note.
Cardamom bread often shows up as a side to savory meat dishes like roast beef, pork, lamb and turkey. Scandinavians prefer it with fish like Salmon and Mackerel. That’s because it’s savory and sweet flavor accents the flavor of those meals. It’s also used as a base for bread stuffing or dehydrated to make bread crumbs.
You can make Cardamom bread from start to finish in your bread machine.
