Asiago Cheese Bread Recipe

Asiago cheese is a highly fragrant cheese similar to Parmesan. It’s a hard cheese and browns well when used in recipes, particularly bread. This recipe calls for the Asiago to be incorporated into the dough and as a topping. You top the bread with a quarter cup of grated asiago cheese after the rise cycle and before the bake cycle. Asiago cheese bread goes great with a soup or salad or on its own with a glass of wine or beer. It’s also a great accompaniment to robust offerings like roasts and barbecue and makes a great sandwich bread.

INGREDIENTS:
 1 ¼ cups of milk at 110° F./ 43° C.
 1 ½ tsps. of salt
 1 tsp. of sugar
 ¼ tsp. pepper
 2 tbsps. butter at room temperature
 1 large egg
 4 cups of bread flour or all-purpose flour
 1 ¼ cups of shredded asiago cheese (reserve ¼ cup for topping)
 2 ½ tsps. of bread-machine yeast or active dry-yeast
DIRECTIONS:

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order indicated in the ingredients section and select basic white-bread setting, 2-pound loaf and medium crust. Reserve a ¼ cup of the grated asiago cheese.

After the rise cycle and before the baking cycle begins, top the risen dough with the remaining ¼ cup of shredded asiago cheese and quickly close the lid.

When done, let rest for 10 minutes and slice and serve.

    Wondering if any kind of hard cheese will work with this and if so, would there be a need to adjust other ingredients based on the cheese used?

    what amounts for 1.5 lb bread.Asiago cheese bread recipe

      The standard formula is the following:
      2 cups of flour = 1-pound loaf
      3 cups of flour = 1.5 pound loaf
      4 cups of flour = 2-pound loaf
      5 cups of flour = 2.5 pound loaf.
      Each cup of flour equals a 1/2 pound of bread. The other ingredients should be adjust proportionally

      Hi Charles,

      3 cups of flour are the typical measure for a 1.5 loaf. If you are working from a recipe for a 2 pound loaf, cut the ingredients by a third. If you want to make a 1.5 pound loaf with a recipe for a 1 pound loaf, increase the ingredients by a third.
